Is the extra point soon going to be a thing of the past?

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is considering it.

In an interview with NFL Media’s Rich Eisen, Goddell is considering getting rid of the point after a touchdown in favor of a brand-new scoring system.

Goodell said the extra point is almost automatic.

“I believe we had five missed extra points this year out of 1,200 some odd (attempts),” Goodell said. “So it’s a very small fraction of the play, and you want to add excitement with every play.”

One proposed change is automatically giving seven points for a touchdown, with the option to try for an eighth point. If the attempt failed, the touchdown would be worth just six points.
