Ford: Half of Avon Lake Workers to be Laid Off
AVON LAKE, OH – Half of the workers at the Ford Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake will be laid off, according to a news release from Ford.
Ford is re-tooling the plant from producing Econoline vans to making chassis for trucks and recreational vehicles.
Ford released the following statement in a press release Wednesday morning:
“As part of our One Ford plan, Ford continues to restructure its manufacturing footprint to match capacity with demand. With the all-new Transit van starting at the Ford Kansas City Assembly Plant later this year, the Ford Ohio Assembly Plant is preparing to balance out our E-Series van production. While Ohio Assembly retools for future product, the plant will experience some down time and approximately half of the plant employees will go on layoff until further notice. Ford remains committed to Ohio Assembly and the plant will continue to play a key role in Ford’s global Manufacturing strategy. ”
About 1,800 people work at the Ford plant in Avon Lake.
Ford is investing about $128 million in the Avon Lake facility, an indication it remains committed to the plant, despite the impending layoffs.
