CLEVELAND — The Ohio Department of Transportation has announced plans to demolish the now-closed 1959 Innerbelt Bridge.

The new Innerbelt Bridge was opened to traffic in both directions on November 23.

This week, crews began removing light poles, barrier walls and railings in preparation for demolition. Next, crews will remove the concrete driving surface.

ODOT plans to use a mixture of both traditional demolition and “controlled” –or explosive — demolition. The demolition is scheduled to take place during the late spring or early summer of 2014.
