NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio -- A major stretch of road was closed Thursday afternoon as crews worked to fix a 16-inch water main break.

The water main break happened around 3 a.m. at the intersection of Lorain Road and Sparky Lane.

Crews ran into some complications while trying to repair the break. Those included icy road conditions from the water, causing crews to have trouble shoring up equipment.

Traffic moving into the area was being detoured onto Great Northern Boulevard to Country Club Boulevard to get back onto Lorain.  Several businesses and restaurants, including Chipotle and Famous Dave's Bar B-Que located along Lorain, were closed all day.

It's been a long week for some of the restaurants.

"It's the right thing to do without running water; you are not able to serve the guests safely so it's definitely the right thing to do," said Art Caram, general manager with Famous Dave's. "The frustrating part is coming on the heels of the minus 10 degree weather and the 6 and 7 inches of snow the last week. You know we had to close our doors early on a few nights, so we were thinking we were just going to climb out of that and we're going to hit 20 degrees today, 20 degrees actually sounds like summer and all, so that is a little frustrating."

Crews anticipated having the break sometime Thursday night.

John Goersmeyer, of the Cleveland Division of Water, advised that once the road is open, those who travel on it should take it slow. They may still be icy because of all the water that spilled onto the streets when the main broke.
