People in Avon, Avon Lake, Medina County, the city of Medina, Sheffield Lake and Sheffield Village are being asked to conserve their water after the water intakes at the Avon Lake Water Plant froze over.

The cities were notified of the problem Tuesday night by Avon Lake Municipal Utilities. Crews worked though the night to open the Lake Erie intakes back up.

The cities would like residents to restrict the use of water as much as possible until the water level is able to be replenished.

Companies are also being asked to restrict operations that require water so that it can be preserved for drinking water, and to reserve in case of a fire.

I just spoke with the Medina County Sanitary Engineers office. In Medina County, the conservation warning applies only to customers of the city of Medina water system.
