CLEVELAND– The winning Mega Millions numbers were drawn Tuesday night. They are: 8, 20, 14, 17, 39 and the Mega Ball is 7.
The jackpot is $636 million! It’s the second-biggest Mega Millions jackpot ever.
“It’s a huge day for Mega Millions,” said Marie Kilbane, public information officer for the Ohio Lottery.
The jackpot jumped from $586 million to $636 million thanks to a last-minute ticket buying frenzy.
“I’m thinking I better win. We got our winning ticket right here so everybody can stop playing,” said one Cleveland resident.
The cash option prize if you do match all the correct numbers is estimated at $341 million.
“It’s too much money for me,” added another person. “I don’t need all that money but I’ll take the chances of being able to help whoever I can.”
Before you get all excited thinking about how you’ll spend all that money, remember, your odds of winning are one in 259 million no matter how many tickets you buy. You have a 1,000 times better chance of an asteroid or comet killing you than cashing in on the grand prize.
“I work at the casino. I know about odds. It’s a long shot but you never know,” said a Horseshoe Casino worker who had just picked up his Mega Millions ticket.
“Your odds pretty much stay the same but as more people play there is more the possible bets are covered so there is a higher chance that someone is going to win,” Kilbane said.
Ohio has already seen its fair share of winners, 17 to be exact. Many around Northeast Ohio are hoping they’ll be number 18.
“If I win, I’m going to buy a lot of Christmas presents but I’m not going to tell because I don’t want to spoil it,” said one lady who bought her ticket on Tuesday afternoon.
If no one matches the correct numbers Tuesday night, the jackpot will keep rolling and will most likely hit the $1 billion mark, making it the highest jackpot ever.
The next drawing is Friday night.
