Family, friends and thousands of employees are mourning the loss of Peter B. Lewis.
The Progressive Insurance chairman passed away Saturday at the age of 80.
Chairman, President and CEO Glenn Renwick released the following statement about Lewis’ passing:
“The thoughts of Progressive’s 26,000 employees are with the Lewis family. Peter B. Lewis led a remarkable life and we will celebrate and reflect on his extraordinary contributions to our company and community. Peter always insisted Progressive focus on the customer first by serving those rejected by other insurance companies and more recently by creating distinctive and valued customer experiences. He built the company on transparency and much of Progressive’s success comes from his influence. While he will be deeply missed, his passion and relentless drive for excellence are deeply rooted within our walls as we work to fulfill Peter’s vision of being consumers’ number one choice for auto insurance.”
The Peter B. Lewis building at Case Western Reserve University is named after the businessman who donated $37 million to the university.
Lewis’ funeral service was held Tuesday.
