LAKE COUNTY, OH -- Winter weather hit early this weekend, making conditions dangerous for drivers.
Drivers experienced the conditions first hand on Saturday afternoon and into the evening. Depending on where drivers were traveling, the snow squalls were changing to clear conditions and then back to snow squalls rather quickly.
Fox 8 crews spent hours braving the elements in several counties Saturday, including Cuyahoga and Lake.
I-271 between Chagrin Boulevard and Harvard Avenue was interesting to watch because even through traffic remained constant, the conditions kept changing.
Also, while driving on I-90 eastbound through Euclid, traffic was extremely slow as a result of the icy conditions on the roadway.
The Ohio Department of Transportation had at least 70 crews on the roadways, salting and patrolling the conditions. Spokesperson Amanda McFarland tells Fox 8 they don't plan to let up until they know the weather situation is finished.
"You just never know what you are going to encounter when you hit the roads," McFarland said. "Just make sure that you clean off your car completely and be prepared for conditions to change mile by mile and minute by minute."
Cleveland police also tell Fox 8 they have been dealing with black ice within the city limits. They also have had a number of accidents as a result of the weather.
