CLEVELAND — Drivers faced a challenging commute Tuesday as slippery and snowy conditions took over the roads.

Fox 8 Traffic Reporter Patty Harken was busy in SkyFOX updating the conditions.

A semi slipped off of Route 2, between 101 and Route 4, while heading eastbound in the Sandusky area overnight.

The eastbound side was closed from 8:30 a.m. until about 11:30 p.m. for cleanup.

Also around 8:30 a.m., I-77 southbound in Copley was closed at Miller Road because of a five-car crash and jackknifed truck.  One lane quickly reopened but delays remained for a time.  One person suffered minor injuries.

Throughout the morning, Harken reported multiple accidents on the east side along Route 21, saying three happened in Willoughby alone and there was at least one other in Eastlake.

An accident was also reported on I-90 eastbound near west 44th.

People traveling on I-71 northbound near West 25th were experiencing delays.

And there were also some jams in Akron along I-76.

ODOT said it had approximately 65 trucks ready to hit the roads beginning at 7 a.m.

Because the snow was preceded by rain, the roads could not be pretreated.

“Motorists should allow extra travel time for their Tuesday morning commute. Be sure to see and be seen. Clear all snow and ice from windows and headlights before heading out. And as always in ice and snow, take it slow!” said ODOT spokesperson Amanda McFarland.
