AVON, OH –The Cleveland Clinic Richard E. Jacobs Health Center helped 20 women celebrate their breast cancer survival Saturday afternoon.

Members of the breast health team for Lorain County provided a morning of relaxation and pampering for the patients, including free facials, make-up application and mini massages.

“A typical cancer patient’s journey is about a year to a year and a half depending on how much treatment they have to have. And during that time, we take so much from patients. We take away their femininity, their breast, their hair, and today was a way to give something back to them, and pamper them, and educate them, and just make them feel good,” said Sondra Powell.

Survivors who attended say the morning of pampering helped them to feel beautiful.

“When you’re going through something like this, you don’t always feel beautiful. You lose everything. You lose your hair, you lose your facial hair, the hair on your head, and so, to have a moment where you can just feel like a woman again is very important because that’s something you tend to lose when you go through this,” said Stacey Murry.

Afterwards, the survivors were treated to lunch and an afternoon of educational talks on skincare after cancer, breast reconstruction and nutrition after cancer from experts at the Cleveland Clinic.
