FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — A breast cancer benefit walk turned into a frightening ordeal for one participant.
According to The Huffington Post, the 55-year-old woman was trying to cross a railroad bridge, which was not part of the route and closed to pedestrians. As the railroad drawbridge started to go up, the woman was stranded over the New River.
Witnesses say the bridge gives a loud signal before it rises over the river.
The woman was stranded 22 feet in the air for about 20 minutes until firefighters rescued her with a ladder. She was not hurt.
