MANSFIELD, OH — Next spring, the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will welcome dozens of endangered animals, but they will be made of wood!

Right now, Carousel Works Inc. in Mansfield is working hard to build a hand-carved creation for the zoo.

The new carousel will feature 64 hand-carved wooden animals, many modeled after creatures already found at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

Each figure takes incredible attention to detail to bring alive.

“We’re monitoring the progress, we’re really close, we’re about halfway there,” said Sue Allen of the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. “Our installation is planned for Memorial Day of 2014 and we’ll have all sorts of figures for folks to hop on and enjoy a ride around the carousel and maybe learn something while you are riding the carousel.”

The Circle of Wildlife Carousel will be located near the center of the zoo.

In addition to building the zoo’s carousel, Carousel Works is also working to restore the Historic Euclid Beach Carousel.
