My Town: Freedom 5K & Memorial Mile Walk

TWINSBURG, Ohio — The Twinsburg VFW Post 4929 is hosting a 5K and walk to benefit military veterans and those currently serving.

The Freedom 5K Race & Memorial Mile Walk will be held Saturday, September 14, at Glenn Chamberlin Park.

Packet pickup for the event will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the Memorial Mile Walk and Freedom 5K begins at 10:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Pre-registration for walkers is $10 and $25 for runners, and $15 for walkers and $30 for runners on race day.

Post-race activities will include live music, a balloon artist, raffles, food and military and safety forces vehicles. Organizers are also holding a donation drive to send items to active members of the military.

The following items are requested for the drive (no glass containers):

  • Individual shampoos/conditioners/soaps/mouthwash
  • Deodorants
  • Dental floss
  • Q-tips
  • Chapsticks
  • Travel size shaving cream
  • Eye drops
  • Ear drops
  • Bug spray towelettes
  • Toilet paper
  • Small cans of tuna/Vienna sausage/sardines
  • Dry powder drink mixes
  • Small jelly
  • Tea bags
  • Beef jerky
  • Fruit snacks/roll ups/raisins/dried fruit/peanuts/trail mix

Proceeds from the Freedom 5K & Memorial Mile Walk will benefit the Cost of Freedom Tribute being held in Twinsburg July 1 to July 5, 2015.
