ELYRIA, Ohio — A driver accused of trying to lure a child circled around the block and made another pass before an adult scared him off, the Elyria Police Department said.

It happened Friday around 8:45 p.m. when a 38-year-old and several kids from the same apartment complex were walking home from a nearby playground.

A 12-year-old fell behind and was near Wesley and Howard when a mid-90s red Jeep Cherokee approached him.  There were two men in the car.

According to the police report, one of them said, “Come here little man and help me find something in my Jeep.”

The boy continued to walk, but as the Jeep followed he broke into a run.

Police said he told the adult about the incident and when the Jeep drove by again she scared the men off.

Local parents and residents were reminded to accompany children and instructed to look for a license plate number if the vehicle returns to the area.
