MONTVILLE TWP., Ohio – Montville police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a young man they said robbed a shopper at gunpoint in a supermarket parking lot, Saturday afternoon.

Surveillance video shows the suspect walking around inside Buehler's Market in Montville on Medina Rd. moments before the robbery at 3:45 p.m.

"I don't know if he was looking for a specific target, or just finding somebody at that point. Maybe kind of scoping out the store," Sgt. Matthew Neil said.

The video shows the young man looking around, walking up one aisle, and down another, empty-handed.

After he walks out of the store, he robbed a female shopper of her purse at gunpoint in the parking lot, police said.

Police said the woman had just walked to her car with her groceries when the robber approached, then pulled out a gun and demanded her purse.

"We don't have crimes like this in Montville Twp. or the community of Medina at large," Neil said.

Shoppers we spoke to are stunned that something so violent could happen in this quiet bedroom community.

"I feel very safe shopping here," one woman shopper said.

"I can't imagine anything worse than that happening here," said another male shopper outside the store.

Neil said the suspect got into an older green Toyota Camry driven by another male, and then drove off.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect is urged to call Montville Police at (330) 725-8314.
