AKRON, Ohio — The 2013 Akron Area 5K Run & Walk for Children with Apraxia of Speech is less than a month away.

The 5K & walk will be held Saturday, September 21 at Boettler Park. The race begins at 9:30 a.m. for runners and 10 a.m. for walkers. On-site registration and check-in will begin at 9 a.m.

Childhood Apraxia of Speech, or CAS, is a neurological speech disorder making it difficult or impossible for children to pronounce sounds, syllables or words despite understanding language.

As of August 26, the race has raised nearly $4,000 toward supporting research and programming for Childhood Apraxia of Speech.
