CANTON — Two Canton police officers were injured in a crash early Sunday morning.

According to Sgt. McWilliams with the Canton Police Department, the accident happened around 12:45 a.m. on Walnut Avenue NE and 12th Street NE.

The officers were responding to a report of suspects damaging cars in a lot when another driver ran a red light and crashed into the officers’ cruiser.

Officer Eric Brown and Officer Joshua Tanner were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.

The Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Brown, the passenger, remained at the hospital and will undergo surgery Monday.  His upper arm was broken in numerous places.

Tanner was treated and released.  He said the crash occurred so quickly he did not even remember it.

The other driver was also hospitalized and later released, and cited for running a red light.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
