Body of baby found inside this car

SHELBY, Ohio– The body of a baby was found inside the trunk of a car at Broadway Auto and Exhaust in Shelby on Tuesday, according to Shelby Police Chief Charlie Roub.

Tuesday night, police said a 17-year-old from Mansfield admitted to police the baby was hers.

She said she delivered the baby on her own inside her family’s home sometime at the end of January or the beginning of February.

During repairs, the owner of the repair shop noticed an odor and, at first, thought there was an animal in the car.

That’s when he found a box in the trunk with a lid on it. The body of a baby, wrapped in a towel, was found inside.

The teen was released to the custody of her parents until autopsy results are complete; those will be done by the Summit County Coroner’s Office.

BCI is also involved in the investigation.
