Randy Travis Awake, Stabilized

TEXAS– Randy Travis is awake and stabilized, according to doctors at Baylor Health Care System in Dallas, Texas.

The country singer had emergency surgery last week to relieve pressure in his brain following a stroke.

Doctors say Travis has idiopathic cardiomyopathy; that means he has scarring of his heart muscle, that is causing his heart to be weak.

The 54-year-old is breathing with the help of a ventilator, but doctors hope to have him weaned off the device soon.Doctors also say brain scans show decreased swelling in his brain.
