Officer Responding to Call Injured in Crash

PERKINS TOWNSHIP, OH — A Perkins police officer was taken to the hospital after he was involved in a crash while responding to a call.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the accident happened on Columbus Avenue near London Road just before 3:00 p.m. Sunday.

Sgt. Jeff Musser was driving his SUV patrol vehicle south on Columbus Avenue with his lights and sirens activated.

When he attempted to pass the car in front of him, the Chevrolet Malibu attempted to pull into a private drive in the path of the SUV.

Sgt. Musser struck the vehicle. Both vehicles went off the left side of the road and into a yard.

Sgt. Musser was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released. The driver of the Malibu, Mark Weikle, 50, was taken to the hospital with a possible broken leg. He was not wearing his seat belt.

The crash is still under investigation. No citations have been issued.
