CLEVELAND — A new business for the dogs opened Saturday in Ohio City.

Ohio City Dog Haven is located on West 29th Street.

The store promotes holistic-brand dog food and dog nutrition. Many products are made from recycled materials, including dog leashes, collars and beds.

The owner, Stephen Szelpal, said he opened the store because of his love for dogs, but also wanted to provide an outlet for other local businesses.

“I believe that this neighborhood will be revitalized through retail, and that will be the lead of making the pockets of neighborhoods in Ohio City, and just making this neighborhood the best, I want to be the pillar, I want to provide a platform for these local manufactures,” said Szelpal.

Local bakers will also have a hand in the food at Ohio City Dog Haven.

Szelpal said about 150 people came through the doors on opening day Saturday. They were also able to raise about $200 for Secondhand Mutts, a Cleveland adoption center.
