Man Killed in Cleveland Fire Identified

CLEVELAND, Ohio — One person died in a house fire on the city’s East Side Sunday morning.

According to Cleveland firefighters, fire broke out at a home in the 600 block of East 160th Street just before 8 a.m.

The fire started in the first floor living room area of the two-story home. A man was found dead on the first level of the home.

On Monday, he was identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office as Martin Murphy, 59.

Occupants on the second floor of the home were able to get out.

Firefighters said there were no working smoke detectors in the home. Officials said it is the first fatal fire of the year in Cleveland.
