LAKE COUNTY, Ohio — The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the driver who struck a motorcyclist Friday evening.

According to authorities, a 59-year-old Painesville resident was driving his motorcycle on SR 84 and stopped to make a left turn onto Madison Avenue just before 9:00 p.m.

A black SUV ran a red light and entered the intersection from Vrooman Road, hitting the motorcyclist and flipping the bike onto its side.

The SUV stopped for a moment then fled the scene.

The operator of the motorcycle was taken by medical helicopter from Tri-Point Hospital to MetroHealth Medical Center.

He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Authorities believe the SUV was possibly a Chevy Equinox between the model years of 2005 and 2009. The vehicle sustained front end damage and lost part of its grill assembly at the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
