ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — Cleveland Indians closing pitcher Chris Perez and his wife, Melanie Perez, are expected to appear in Rocky River Municipal Court July 9.

The 8:15 pretrial will be held in Judge Brian Hagan’s courtroom.  The couple pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance Monday.

The pleas were faxed to Rocky River Municipal Court by their attorney. Since the pleas were faxed in, the couple does not have to appear for a June 19 arraignment.

The two were charged after investigators tracked a package they believed to contain marijuana to the home Perez rents on Parklane Drive in Rocky River last week.

Evidence has been examined by BCI and was determined to be marijuana with a total weight of 163.9 grams, according to Rocky River police.

They surrendered to police last week after they were both served with complaints and were released on personal bond.
