Prayers for Roger: Stefani’s Update (6/6)
You’ve followed Stefani Schaefer’s story from the beginning. You’ve supported her through unbelievably challenging times, celebrated the small victories with her, and showed your love through her darkest hours.
Now, more than a year after her husband’s accident, Stefani is helping her family through the next phase in their lives. Roger was moved to a long-term care facility on Wednesday to continue treatment for his traumatic brain injury.
As Stef and her son, Race, packed up Roger’s clothes for the move, Race began to sob.
Stef explained the emotional moment on her Facebook fan page:
“Last week, my son Race was helping me get some of Roger’s clothes together for the move to the new facility and Race stood holding Roger’s shirts… sobbing so hard – clutching those shirts… and said, “I can still smell him. I miss him so much, I miss the “old” daddy.” It just tore me apart.”
It was a heartbreaking transition for Stef, but one she knows is necessary for his recovery.
And while Roger’s journey continues, Stef wants you to be aware of something that will have a direct impact on brain injury treatment in the future: the FOX 8 Fox Trot.
It’s a 5K charity run/walk on August 25 that benefits The MetroHealth Foundation’s Brain Injury Program. Because Roger spent several months at Metro after his injury, Stef says she’s grateful for the race.
It’s also a special day because it happens to be her son’s birthday.
