CLEVELAND– The Indians snapped a five-game losing skid on Wednesday night as Justin Masterson pitched a gem over 6 innings to lead the way.

The Tribe won 5-2 as veteran slugger Jason Giambi delivered the big blow.

Joey Votto ripped a solo homer off Masterson in the first inning and then Masterson was brilliant the rest of his stint.  Masterson allowed only 4 hits and that one earned run while striking out 7 batters.  He won his 8th game of the season.

His stint was not without drama. In the 6th inning, he loaded the bases with no outs but got out of trouble. He induced Xavier Paul to hit into a 1-2-3 double play and then got a fly out to end the threat.

The bullpen finished out the game, though closer Vinnie Pestano surrendered a solo homer to Xavier Paul in the ninth inning.

Cleveland took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning as Nick Swisher laced a double to bring home a run.

Giambi belted a three run homer in the 6th inning to give the Indians a cushion.

The Indians and the Reds close out their two-game series on Thursday night.
