CLEVELAND, Ohio --The teen shot and killed behind a west side library Tuesday afternoon has been in the media spotlight before.

Mustafa McWhorter, 18, was shot to death behind the library on Lorain Avenue and West 116th Street.

Police said McWhorter was walking with another man on Lorain Avenue when they got into a confrontation with someone in a red pick-up truck.

Police said a person in that red truck pulled out a gun and opened fire on McWhorter, hitting him in the chest.

McWhorter was taken to the hospital, but he did not survive.

McWhorter has been in the news before. He and his mother spoke exclusively to Fox 8 in May of 2012 after a video of him being brutally beaten went viral.

"I just remembered we were fighting. Once I saw the video, it all came back to me. I guess he slammed me a couple times and I hit my head on the ground," McWhorter said during the 2012 interview.

He had this message for the man who attacked him on the video:

"If I could say something to him, I'd say, 'You did wrong, you did wrong'," McWhorter said in May of 2012.

Someone was caught and convicted for that crime.

Now police need to catch McWhorter's killer.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Cleveland Police Homicide Unit at (216) 623-5464.
