ASHTABULA, Ohio — Several Ashtabula residents reported seeing a bear in their neighborhood this week.

One woman told police she went into a backyard in the 4800 block of Benefit Avenue and she saw a “very big” bear in the garden on Tuesday morning.

Several other residents had also reported seeing the bear between Kain and Benefit avenues and the Route 20 and West 47th Street area.

After the woman called police, an officer spotted the bear in a wooded area in the 5000 block of Benefit Avenue. He alerted residents in the immediate area.

Officers called the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and were told to leave the bear alone and it would wander away.
