ELYRIA, Ohio — A mother is charged with child endangering after her two young children were found wandering alone in their neighborhood.

Neighbors called Elyria police Sunday after spotting two young children, ages 2 and 4, wandering down the 800 block of Hollywood Drive without adult supervision.

One of the boys didn’t have on a shirt and was wearing jeans with a wet diaper underneath. His shoes were also three to four sizes too big for him, according to a police report.

The young children told officers they were walking to their uncle’s house and that their mom was sleeping, but couldn’t remember where their home was.

Officers made contact with the boys’ mother at her apartment, where she had been asleep, and told her the children had been walking the neighborhood alone for 45 minutes. Elisha Stidham told police the boys “were supposed to be in the back yard.”

The children were released into Stidham’s custody. She’ll appear in court for child endangering on Wednesday. Officers also notified Children’s Services.
