CLEVELAND -- Ariel Castro is the father of a 6-year-old girl born to one of the three kidnapping victims, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced Friday.
Amanda Berry, who was allegedly taken by Castro in 2003, has a 6-year-old daughter. DeWine did not confirm her as the kidnapping victim who had the child with Castro.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) received DNA samples from Castro late Thursday afternoon. Forensic scientists worked through the night to confirm the results, then handed them over to Cleveland police Friday morning.
DeWine said in a news release that Castro's DNA profile did not match any other Ohio cases; however, national results are pending through the FBI.
Ariel Castro remains in the Cuyahoga County Jail on suicide precaution. He's being held there on an $8 million cash bond.
