CLEVELAND -- A scary incident along I-77 North terrified a worker and frightened drivers.

Just before 5 p.m. a woman was traveling north on I-77 toward downtown when she noticed something strange near a set of large outdoor billboards.

She thought she saw a person dangling from the signs near the Harvard Avenue and Fleet Avenue exits.

Puzzled by what she saw, the woman called 911 and said, “Um I’m not sure if I saw what I think I saw,  but it looked like someone was hanging from a billboard.”

The caller went on to say that the person looked like they were holding on by their hands. Cleveland Police and EMS responded to the scene and rescued the person.

Police say it was a man working on the billboards who got into some kind of trouble. Sgt. Sammy Morris said, the man was wearing a safety harness and not seriously hurt.

EMS medics treated him at the scene and released him.

At this point it’s unknown what happened, or caused the unnerving situation. However, it appears the driver may have prevented any more serious harm from coming to the worker when she “just happened” to glance up at the sign and then “look down” to wear he was hanging.
