FAIRLAWN, Ohio — Good Samaritans helped rescue a duck dangling from a tree Tuesday morning.

A woman was walking through the east side of Croghan Park around 8 a.m. and spotted the duck, who was tangled in a string hanging from a kite. She flagged down an officer who called the Fairlawn Police Department.

Police and the city’s Street Department used a ladder and a knife to cut the duck loose.

The duck is a male bird, about 1.5 to 2 years old.

It was taken to NorthCoast Bird & Exotic Specialties at Barberton Veterinary Clinic. The duck had some swelling near the wing, but nothing was broken. Veterinarians expect him to make a full recovery.

The duck will remain at the clinic and will then transition into a smaller pond area where it can be watched. Once it regains its strength, the duck will fly off.
