2 Children Killed After Dirt Wall Collapses

STANLEY, North Carolina — Authorities said two children are dead after being trapped underground after a dirt wall collapsed Sunday afternoon in Gaston County, North Carolina, WGHP reports.

The children, a 6-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy, were reportedly playing near a construction site when a dirt wall collapsed on top of them.

Rescue operations were launched immediately, but it was too late.

Crews were trying to recover the children’s bodies late Sunday night.
