CHARDON, Ohio — A double amputee from Chardon is in the process of walking across America to promote awareness for the welfare of children.

Phil Hlabse, 60, is now walking from the Church of San Raphael in San Raphael, Calif., all the way to the coast of Maine.

Hlabse lost part of his right leg and half of his left foot due to medical complications.

The man plans on completing the 3,200-mile journey in eight months and will have an RV following him along the way.

Throughout his journey Hlabse plans on carrying rosary beads and saying a special prayer for children.
