CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A woman has died after being found covered in blood in downtown Cleveland Sunday.

According to Cleveland police Sgt. Sammy Morris, dispatch received a 911 call reporting a woman screaming at about 5:30 p.m.

"It's bad," said the caller. "There's a lady who was attacked, and there's blood everywhere."

The woman, who was 53, was found by police at 75 Erieview Plaza. She had several injuries to her torso, but police said it's not clear if they were gunshot or stab wounds.

The victim was taken by ambulance to MetroHealth Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.

The woman still had her purse when police arrived, but it's not known if anything was taken, said police. A vehicle believed to be the victim's was towed from the scene, police said.

Homicide detectives were questioning witnesses and searching for surveillance video Sunday night.

Morris said he couldn't remember the last such incident downtown and said it's an unusual for that area.

"Downtown is usually quiet," said Morris. "We rarely have problems down here."
