SOLON, Ohio — Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead.

It happened around 9:45 p.m. at the intersection of Bainbridge Road and Sunnywood Drive Sunday.

One officer was shot in the chest and left arm, but was wearing a bullet proof vest.

The suspect was shot and killed at the scene.

According to a release from the Solon Police Department, both officers have been treated and released from the Cleveland Clinic Twinsburg Emergency Department. They have been placed on administrative leave.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner has identified the suspect as Kevin M. Bailey, 22, of Sylvania Township.

The incident is being investigated by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Solon Police Chief Christopher P. Viland released the following statement:

“We expect a full and complete investigation and await what we feel will be positive results.  We will also be in the process of providing appropriate counseling for all involved employees.  This is one of those events that no one thinks will ever happen in the suburbs.  It is what we train for but hope won’t come to pass.”
