The speed limit on many Ohio freeways could be increased to 70 miles per hour if changes to the state transportation budget are approved, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

There are 34 states with speed limits at or above 70 mph.

The speed limit is 70 mph on the Ohio Turnpike, which is run independently.

The 70-mph limit would apply to freeways outside of urban areas.

According to the Dispatch, driving 5 mph faster between Columbus and Cleveland would save about nine minutes.
