BEDFORD HEIGHTS, Ohio – An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday on Kayla Turner, the 2-year-old Bedford Heights girl found unresponsive in an apartment complex.

Turner’s uncle, Denzel Turner, 21, has been charged with domestic violence, felonious assault and endangering children.  More charges could follow.

Bedford Heights police received a 911 call around 4 p.m. on Sunday for a report of a 2-year-old who had struck her head. The caller said she was unresponsive.

Kayla Turner was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police said bruising on the child was not consistent with the initial report of how she was injured.

Turner was in the uncle’s care for a week.
