PHOENIX, Arizona — Inmates at an Arizona jail will soon be paying for their meals: $1 to be exact.

The sheriff says the rising cost of food and the decline in donations are to blame for the new meal change.

Suspects will have to pay for their chow starting the minute they are booked.

Anyone who can’t afford a meal will still be fed, but they’re still responsible for the bill.
