CHIPPEWA LAKE, Ohio — On a day when most people avoided the icy outdoors, Fox 8′s Peggy Sinkovich went for dip.
She plunged into Chippewa Lake for the Chippewa Lake Lions Club Polar Bear Run/Walk and Jump.
“It is freezing as you can tell but I’ve got a good team here and we’re all gonna jump in for a good cause,” Peggy explained as she stood next to five friends.
The event raised money for the CrossPointe Church Community Meal Program and Feeding Medina County Cloverleaf School’s Weekender Program
As jumpers stripped off their coats, many revealed creative costumes underneath.
A man and a woman jumping together posed as a groom and bride, people in “business” outfits carried briefcases and there were plenty of superheroes.
“They’re nuts! It’s cold out!” said a smiling Denise Shanno as she watched the event.
“I think they’re crazy! I’m loving watching it, but they’re crazy!” agreed Jennifer Angiocchi.
Chris Becker, the assistant Trumbull County prosecutor, was among those who jumped with Peggy.
“Invigorating! Makes you feel like you’re alive!” he said before it was his turn.
The temperature at the time of the jump was about 24 degrees. The windchill was 10.
