Mount Union Purple Raiders Win 11th National Title

SALEM, Virginia– Mount Union won its 11th national title Friday night, beating St. Thomas (Minnesota) in Salem, VA for the Division III NCAA football national championship.

The final score was 28-10.

The Purple Raiders from Alliance, OH played in the Stagg Bowl for the 16th time in 20 years.

The Tommies made their first ever trip to the title game.

St. Thomas is 14-0 overall and in the tournament after winning the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title and its automatic bid.

This was the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Mount Union lost the last three years in the title game to UW-Whitewater, who did not make the playoffs this year.

The Purple Raiders senior class was the first in 20 years to not have a championship, so this was a huge victory for them.
