BRUNSWICK, Ohio — A standoff lasting more than 24 hours ended abruptly Saturday night.

A male 39-year-old suspect died of gunshot wounds and a female victim was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center.

Police have not released whether his death was self-inflicted or police action as a result of the standoff.

Brunswick police arrived at the home Friday around 1:30 p.m. The standoff ended at approximately 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to Brunswick police, the department received a phone call from the brother of the suspect inside the Jefferson Avenue home, saying his brother was there to assault his ex-girlfriend.

When police arrived, they set up a perimeter after finding the front door damaged and barricaded. Officers heard a man and a woman arguing inside, said police.

Police say contact was made with the man, who said he would not come out and was armed.
