CLEVELAND HEIGHTS-- Who would chain a dog to a tree deep in a park, shoot him twice and leave him there for dead?
That’s exactly what Cleveland Heights police are trying to figure out tonight.
Sunday afternoon at Forest Hill Park, dog walkers heard gunshots.
It wasn’t until Monday afternoon when Dee Shedlow was walking through a back trail that she figured out what happened. “I'm really glad I was there, very glad. I hate to see the park defined by the negative. And I hope we can find these people who behaved in a way that is incomprehensible to me,” said Shedlow.
Someone chained a full grown Mastiff to a tree and fired numerous shots, hitting the dog twice; once in the jaw and once in the shoulder. One bullet was still lodged in the dog’s chest muscle when he was taken to the vet.
Ann Trupo heard gunshots on Sunday and says, she didn’t know what happened. When she found out, considering she’s a dog trainer and a volunteer with PAWS (Public Animal Welfare Society), she was furious. "You try to make sense of it. What kind of person could do something like this? There`s no rhyme or reason. He was chained!”
The unnamed Mastiff is doing okay at this stage. He has started eating, but his condition is still very sensitive. He’s not moving a lot.
As police continue their search for the person who did this, everyone is hoping this Mastiff recovers and finds a family who loves him.
