Busted Driver Yelled at While Holding ‘Idiot’ Sign

CLEVELAND — The woman who was caught on video passing a school bus by driving on the sidewalk served part of her sentence Tuesday morning.

Shena Hardin, 32, stood at the corner of East 38th and Superior for an hour. She held a sign that read, “Only an idiot would drive on the sidewalk to avoid the school bus.”

People who passed her took pictures and yelled at her. “She doesn’t have a child with special needs,” says parent Lisa Kelley.  “She would have had to wait just a few little seconds for that bus.  She could have gone down another street.  Now, look at her standing on the corner looking like an idiot… dressed in black, wearing shades so no one can see her.”

Back in September, Hardin pleaded not guilty to charges of not stopping for a school bus and reckless operation.

A bus driver had noticed Hardin’s pattern along East 38th Street, so he notified Cleveland Schools and had his cell phone camera rolling during one of her episodes.

The portion of sidewalk she used to avoid the bus was the entrance to a day care.

When Hardin was asked repeatedly Monday if she would like to apologize or say something to the parents of the kids she put in harm’s way, she lit a cigarette, smirked and did not say a thing.  She just texted on her cell phone and played loud music in her ears. Her mother sat in a car nearby and waited for Hardin.  She had nothing to say either.

Hardin will be back at the corner with the sign Wednesday morning. Her license has been suspended for 30 days and she also has to pay a $250 fine.

Judge Pinkey S. Carr, who sentenced Hardin, will appear on FOX 8 News in the Morning Wednesday, to answer questions about the case.
