“I’ve received many emails the last few days asking how Roger is doing. We were able to bring him home for a few hours from the hospital on Saturday. It’s a great part of his therapy to come home to see how he does from time to time. Plus, we love having him home.
It’s a lot of work, because he can’t be left alone for a second.. and I have to say it’s very stressful (he’s now like my 6 foot tall fragile baby) I am SO worried that something will go wrong. There’s a lot of cognitive functions that have not returned… but I know and am believing that it will … in time.
Initially, he would not come home with me … we debated for a very long time. A nurse was trying to convince him that he needed to come home for a little bit with me…. and finally, after MUCH debate, he did. They say that is very common with brain injury.
The patient feels safe where they are at the moment. When we brought him back… he was insisting that he was going to come home with me. So, he didn’t want to come initially.. and didn’t want us to leave at the end of the day. That helped me to not take it personally, but my heart was breaking that he couldn’t come back home with us. I know ONE DAY he will – and THAT day will make up for all these sad and heartbreaking ones we’ve had for six and a half months. Now, my concern this week, is that the kids and I are sick.
I had a throat culture yesterday.. and I’m taking the kids in today to get checked. They stayed home from school today because they are sick. I am praying that we didn’t get Roger sick. It’s the last thing he needs right now. The staff at the hospital are keeping a very close eye on him …. and giving him lots of Vitamin C. :-)
After work today, I picked up a rotisserie chicken and have a pot of chicken noodle soup on the stove for the kids. I added broth, carrots, celery and extra wide noodles. (I couldn’t find any parsley in my spice drawer, I usually add that too) What’s your special chicken soup recipe or ingredients? Mine looks a little bland. Enjoy this sunshine! That makes me feel better already. :-).”
