PORTLAND, Oregon — A legal battle is brewing over an obese dachshund named Obie.

His story made national headlines as many organizations came forward to help.

At 77 pounds, Obie’s elderly owners could no longer care for him and gave the Oregon Dachshund Rescue custody of him back in August. He was then placed in the care of a foster home, which vowed to help him shed those unwanted pooch pounds.

Now, the ODR is fighting to get Obie back, saying that his current foster guardian is exploiting his condition to the media, and not providing him with proper veterinarian care.
