COLLEGE PARK, Maryland-- Doctors at The University of Maryland are revealing what a man looks like now, 7 months after undergoing one of the most extensive facial transplants ever.
The patient, 37-year-old Richard Lee Norris of Hillsville, Virginia, says he is "doing well."
Norris says he had to wear a mask for 15 years, so he's happy to be able to go out and not be stared at or endure comments about his looks.
In March, doctors replaced most of Norris' face.
He was severely injured in a gun accident in 1997.
