PAINESVILLE, Ohio — A Lake County Common Pleas Court jury has convicted a woman of helping her son to rob and kill an elderly woman over the summer, Fox 8 News reports.
Danna Weimer, 52, was found guilty on 17 counts related to the death of 77-year-old Eleanor Robertson, of Madison Township, including aggravated murder and burglary, tampering with evidence, receiving stolen property and numerous drug charges.
According to prosecutors, back in June, she assisted her son, 22-year-old Zachary Weimer, in stealing Robertson’s jewelry in an attempt to feed their drug habit.
Robertson’s body was found by police officers hours later in her bedroom. She had been stabbed dozens of times.
Mother and son were arrested soon after. Police recovered some of Robertson’s belongings in Danna Weimer’s car.
Since the trial started more than a week ago, jurors have been presented with damaging evidence against the Weimers, including texts between the two on the day of the murder and surveillance video.
Danna Weimer could face life in prison at her November 5 sentencing.
Zachary Weimer will be tried on the same 17 counts as his mother on November 13.
Both pleaded not guilty at their arraignments.
