You know that extra weight you’ve put on? It could be the reason you’re paying more to fill up at the gas station.
That is the finding of a new survey by Allstate Insurance. The auto insurer posted a blog about the connection between being obese and spending on gas.
Allstate cited data from Consumer Reports and the U.S. Department of Energy.
The increasing weight of American drivers has lead to a one billion gallon per year increase in gasoline consumption. An additional 100 pounds placed in a car can decrease fuel efficiency by up to 2 percent.
