EUCLID, Ohio — It was not pretty, and it was a game that Villa Angela-St. Joseph’s players, coaches and fans would all like to forget. A week after beating Lutheran East for their first victory of 2012, the Vikings laid an egg against visiting Portsmouth Notre Dame, losing 14-6 in a soggy and sloppy game at Sparky DiBiasio Stadium.

The game was scoreless at halftime, before VASJ’s Tyler Watson returned the second half kickoff 73 yards for what proved to be the Vikings only points of the night. VASJ (1-4) led 6-0 after three quarters, but Notre Dame would score twice in the final frame to steal a win on the road.

Portsmouth Notre Dame (4-1) scored early in the fourth quarter and converted the extra point to take a 7-6 lead. The Titans would extend the lead on  Michael Mader’s touchdown plunge with less than a minute remaining.

Trailing 14-6, VASJ still had a chance to tie, but Notre Dame's defense stopped the Vikings on downs in the final seconds.
